One of the most basic and important roles of a server is to provide files to other computers on the network.
Once the server is set up, the productivity and collaboration of your team will be greatly enhanced. Folders on the server can be shared with individual users or security groups on the network.
This folder can be mapped as a drive letter using group policy. So when an employee logs in to his or her workstation, the server automatically creates a drive letter.
The employee can then edit and save the document to that folder. Another employee can continue that work by allowing members of the same security group to access the same document from their own computer. In this way, the server becomes a place to share, collaborate, and store important documents over time.
